What makes us different?
Whether you just want daily disposable contact lenses for occasional use or custom made silicon hydrogel lenses and rigid gas permeable lenses, we can look after all your contact lens fitting requirements.
All contact lens fitting and advice is provided by an experienced and qualified Optometrist, who, instead of an assistant or trainee, will also instruct you on all aspects of handling, wearing and caring for your lenses. All new contact lens patients are supplied with out of hours contact details. Being local, we can offer emergency out of hours care and advice in the unlikely event that you encounter any issues with your lenses.
Fitting contact lenses normally involves at least 3 appointments – the 1st appointment will include an explanation of your options, costs and the pros and cons of contact lens wear. Trialing some lenses for about an hour will give you an opportunity to experience contact lens wear and allow us to assess how your eyes and vision respond to them. The 2nd appointment is a teaching session to instruct you on how to insert, remove and clean your contact lenses & the 3rd appointment is a follow up to ensure things are all going smoothly before issuing you with your contact lenses and specification. Unfortunately, there is no NHS funding for contact lens fitting, so fees for this service start from £75.00
Contrary to popular belief, the corneal surface isn’t perfectly round – it’s usually more curved in the centre and flattens towards the edges. With a Digital Corneal Topographer, we are able to map out the surface of the cornea. This is superior to keratometry used by most contact lens fitters, which assumes a round surface. Corneal Topography gives us the capability to custom design contact lenses if required, to ensure optimum fit, comfort and performance and handle more complex fits such as keratoconus.
To minimise any compromise to your ocular health, we recommend and fit the latest generation of lenses with high oxygen permeability materials wherever possible.
As well as fitting, we provide ongoing contact lens aftercare, which can be performed at the same appointment as an eye examination for convenience, if required.
Please note that by law, in order to be supplied with contact lenses, both the eye exam and contact lens aftercare appointments must be up to date. Also, for clinical reasons, we prefer our contact lens wearers to maintain up to date spectacles as a back-up and to avoid the over wearing of contact lenses.
